As part of the yearly improvement to ensure that UK’s Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and Retail Prices Index (RPI) are representative of consumer spending patterns, Blu-ray players have now been included among the approximately 650 items that represent what the country is buying and consuming.
Each year about 5% of the items are changed to reflect changes in consumer habits and this year Blu-ray players were introduced to “capture price changes in this new expanding technology.”
Among other new additions were garlic bread (replacing pitta bread) and lip gloss (replacing lip stick) as well as “computer games with accessory.”
