On a single day, in North America, have 1.5 million copies of 'Avatar' been sold, according to reports from Fox Home Entertainment.
The previous record holder was 'The Dark Knight', with 600.000 copies sold on the first day in the U.S and the U.K; however the Blu-ray format was not as popular as today.
American retailers have sold an average of 60 percent of their Blu-ray copies of the film, which only contains the regular 2D version.
'Avatar' producer Jon Landau says that a special edition of the film will be released in November this year, with lots of special features.
